I hate blogging..

There, I said it, got it out.

Ok, I don’t HATE it but I was getting close. I have been at this for the better part of 4 years, and doing design for about 3 1/2. I have seen bloggers come and go and I have had a love/hate relationship with it for awhile now.

I love blogging for:

  • The amazing women I have met and the friendshipsI have made because of blogging.
  • The places I have been and the experiences I have had as a result of blogging.
  • The opportunity I have had to make a small income designing blogs to enable me to stay home with my boys while they are small.

I hate it for:

  • demanding that I spend time with it.
  • taking extra  time away from my boys (although I have yet to refuse a request for a book or a snuggle – I do have SOME priorities!)
  • allowing me to fall back on lazy homekeeping and convenience foods.

But I want to LOVE it again. I missed it a lot during my self-imposed hiatus. I need to find that balance (it’s been a much-talked about word this last week or so- is it the new year that does this?). I’m not a writer – not like some of my favorite bloggers are – the ones who make me laugh, cry and think. I don’t intend this blog to be a memoir to share with my kids when they grow up.  I’m not uber-talented in decorating, or a cooking fiend…

I am just a mom who loves my boys fiercely, and is an information junkie who needs a place to unload once in awhile before my head explodes. So if anything I write makes you laugh,  gives you a great idea, or helps you figure out what to make for dinner tonight, then that is the icing on my already yummy cupcake.

PS – I have a post for almost every day this week – don’t get used to it 🙂

  1. Yeah! More posts.

Well, I can say I am one of the freaks that never gets sick of my blog. I love it. I adore writing posts…often several a day. Because I am a FREAK.

But tons of people feel like you- and are at it for WAY LESS amount of time (4 yrs? WOW)

    Hang tough my friend!

  2. I totally understand where you are coming from. Alot of people also think Facebook is way better than blogging. But it’s not blogging at all. In 2009, I didn’t blog nearly as much as I did in the 4 yrs prior. I was in blog limbo, I guess. But with the new year I realized that blogging is for me & me alone. If people read it fine & I know they do from all the hits I receive. If they don’t comment…Oh well. But since I came to the conclusion that I do really love blogging & will blog, what I want & when I want too, I have been blogging like crazy. And it feels good.

I love it when you blog. 🙂

Also, how do you get that little bar at the bottom of your post where you can share the post on facebook & such?

  3. I hear you! Sometimes I get fed up, too, because I feel like I’m naval gazing or something. Sometimes I want to post things on the blog b/c they inspire me or something catches my eye and then I stop and think…will this be well received? Will people think I’m weird? That’s when blogging bugs me–when I worry about what people think. That shouldn’t be what it’s about.

  4. I’m so right there with you! I get to the point where I just realize I have nothing to say…and I take a break for a few days. You know what has helped lately, though? Writing prompts. I’ve started looking for carnivals that give me a starting place and then I just start to vomit into blogger. : )

See ya next week! Oh, and do you want me to bring those books back to you???
