I thought that my oldest starting school was going to be a big deal. Who knew that I was going to have to make the most changes?
I went to the Dr Tuesday, for a minor problem (seriously – it was an infected hangnail of all things!), only to find out I had a BIGGER problem. I have hypertension – high blood pressure. When the nurse first took my blood pressure, and it was 186/116, I was mildly concerned – I had just run from one end of the urgent care to the other when I heard my name called. But when they took it again after I had rested a bit, it was STILL high – 175/95. That’s when I began imagining chest pains, dizzyness (well, outside of the normal), and blurry vision (you DID know I have a vivid imagination, right?). Fast forward to seeing my primary care Dr yesterday (whom I LOVE-funniest Dr evah!), and the news wasn’t any better. So blood pressure medication is now a part of my routine.
The GOOD news is the Dr is VERY optimistic that as I continue to lose weight (16 down, xx to go!), a lot of the issues I have been experiencing, INCLUDING the high blood pressure, will resolve. I am going to be upping the ante a bit with my diet and exercise – I am still doing Weight Watchers (I loved the Wendy Plan, but always forgot whether I was on a low or high point day), and have added yoga (the Oxygen Network has a FABULOUS yoga program called “Inhale”- I have a few of them tivo’d so I can do it whenever I want), and walking to my routine as well.
*Sigh* – growing old is a PAIN…in lighter news though, I am totally rockin the Sarah Palin bangs (excuse the dreadful webcam pic- oh, and the zit! 😉 )
Growing old is for the birds! I’ll have to check out the yoga show Inhale – thanks for the tip!
This sounds SO familiar. I went in for a jammed thumb and came out with high BP and on medications.. I had no idea it was that high at all! Finally it’s under control and I’ve been drinking whey protein (Bolthouse Farms Mocha Cappuccino) to help with my cravings and it’s been working like a charm. Thinking good thoughts for ya!
And cute picture! I think this is the first time I’ve ever “seen” you 🙂
Hang in there!
I’m making some major eating changes thanks to gestational diabetes, but I know it’s going to have to be a lifetime lifestyle change.
Kind of depressing, but also motivating!
I have had half a dozen people in the past 2 days tell me I look like Sarah Palin.
But still not more people than say I look like Bonnie Hunt. hehe
Nice bangs!
I love “Inhale” too! It’s a real workout.
16 pounds down is awesome! I’m sure that bp will drop along w/the rest of the pounds.
I’m doing WW again too but I haven’t faithfully done the wendy plan yet…oh good grief I might as well admit it, I haven’t faithfully been doing WW till this week and I started back in July!
CUTE you and your bangs!!! 🙂
Ooohhh those ARE Sarah’s bangs. *jealous*
Your blood pressure will be in normal range in no time flat. Congrats on your weight loss!
I’m still adjusting to having a kindergartener AND newly cut bangs. So I feel ya.
I have been taking BP meds for a few months, never thought I would be taking them. I am watching what I eat and trying to knock off a few pounds. I second your growing old is a pain statement. LOL Great job on the 16 pounds down.

I am sure if you continue to lose weight and do yoga you will be off those meds in no time!
I have to say, I gained too much weight during my (first) pregnancy and was worried about how to get it off before I procreate again. I was totally against weight loss pills and didn’t really think a weight loss fad was for me- if I remember to take my bc pill everyday I’m doing great so counting points was out of the question! I have successfully lost it all in 15 months, hurray and NO there is no such thing as quick weight loss sadly. I owe my success to portion control, if you eat more than three of your fists in a meal- you’re eating too much; having healthy snacks like carrots, cheerios, and yogurt, twice a day to keep my hunger down for meals; and keeping my desserts to frozen yogurt, fruit, and the OCCASIONAL homemade chocolate goodie- Saturday nights are our splurge night but I do have dessert 4 out of the 7 nights in a week because I just love food and all things sweet!
I have to recommend looking into a Wii. I know they are expensive, but honestly my whole family gets into it. Grandma, Sister, Niece, Husband, Baby, you name it- they play together. For us, it has been a great way to bridge the gap between the generations and create much more meaningful relationships. My mother will bowl or play tennis with her grandkids now, when in real life, she wouldn’t be able to do those things. And I must say that in this time where every kid is a winner no matter what- this is a great way to teach your kids about how to lose gracefully and that in life, they can’t always get what they want and that it’s ok- they can try again next time! I have the Wii fit too and it is very motivational. It scolds me-in a friendly way, when I haven’t been exercising regularly and it shows me how to do every move- including all the yoga poses!
Good luck with your weight loss, you CAN do it- stay motivated to get off the blood pressure meds and stay healthy for you kids!
